Curriculum Vitae

Mechthild Baron studied environmental engineering at the Technische Universität Berlin. She worked as a consulting engineer in the areas of remediation of contaminated soils / demolition and recycling of building materials. Subsequently, she became a researcher at the Technische Universität Berlin, Department of Waste Management, where she received a PhD in 2006. She joined the German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU) in 2007. Her main areas of work are circular economy and soil protection.

Henriette Dahms holds a university degree and a PhD in biology from the Universität Giessen. While completing her PhD she was visiting researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala. She joined the German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU) in 2010. Her main areas of work are ecology, biodiversity and nature conservation.

Sophie Schmalz graduated from the University of Potsdam where she studied the MSc programme in International Economics with a focus on Environmental and Energy Economics. She also holds a BA in Political Science and Economics from the University of Münster. From 2016-2018 she was a Research Assistant at the German Institute for Economic Research Berlin (DIW Berlin) in the Energy, Transportation and Environment department. Hannah-Lea Schmid completed a Bachelor's degree in Biology at the Freie University of Berlin, followed by a Master's degree in Urban Ecosystem Sciences at the Technical University of Berlin. During her studies she worked at the Institute of Ecology at the Technical University of Berlin as a student assistant (2019 - 2020). She was a PhD scholar at the Medical School EWL, Bielefeld University, in the junior research group "Healthy Places - Therapeutic Landscapes" (2020 - 2023), including a research stay at the Free University of Bolzano, Italy. Since 2023 she is a research associate at the Bielefeld University and the German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU).

Elisabeth Schmid studied chemistry at the Universities of Oldenburg and Göttingen. After gaining her PhD in 1992 she worked as a researcher at the Federal Environment Agency until 2002. In 2003 she joined the German Advisory Council on the Environment. Her main areas of work are chemicals policy, air pollution control and pollution control in industrial facilities.

Sebastian Strunz studied political science and economics at the University of Heidelberg and the Université de Lausanne. Subsequently, he earned a PhD in sustainability economics at the Leuphana University Lüneburg. From 2012 to 2021, he was a research associate at the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Leipzig (Department of Economics), focusing on the energy transition and the political economics of sustainability transitions. In 2021, he joined the German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU) as a research associate.

He was a scientific researcher at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in the research department Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics. Since 2020, he has been a member of the BMBF-FONA-funded junior research group EnSu (The role of energy sufficiency in energy transition and society).
